Important update for US customers: new tariffs on all imports (effective Aug 29, 2025)

What’s changing

The United States has ended the long-standing “de minimis” rule for low-value imports. From August 29, 2025, all commercial shipments entering the US—no matter the value—are subject to import duties and standard customs processing.

What this means for Paperlust orders

  • Tariff rate on Paperlust goods: Our products are made in Australia. Under the current US “reciprocal tariff” framework, imports from Australia are subject to the baseline 10% tariff.
  • Who collects the tariff: Paperlust ships to the US with DHL Express. DHL acts as our customs broker and will contact you directly to collect any duties after we dispatch and before delivery. (This mirrors how VAT is collected for UK/EU deliveries.)
  • Applies to all orders to the US: The removal of de minimis means even small orders that were previously duty-free may now incur duties.

When does this start?

  • Orders dispatched on or after August 29, 2025 (US time) will be processed under the new rules.

How much will I pay? (simple example)

  • If your Paperlust order value is US$300, the indicative tariff is 10% = US$30 (final amounts are confirmed by US Customs/DHL at clearance).
  • Depending on the shipment and customs processing, additional government fees may apply. DHL will advise the total amount due during clearance.

How you’ll pay

  1. We dispatch your order.
  2. DHL emails/texts you a secure link or invoice for the tariff due.
  3. You pay DHL online.
  4. DHL completes customs clearance and delivers your package.

FAQs

Will this affect my delivery timeline?

Based on our experiences in other jurisdictions, it is unlikely to add any delays to delivery if the invoice is paid during the transit and clearance period. If you have any concerns about delivery timelines contact our team at support@paperlust.co

Does this affect customers outside the US?

No—this update is only for deliveries to the United States.

Why is this happening now?

The US issued new measures in 2025 that (i) impose “reciprocal” tariffs and (ii) suspend de minimis globally from Aug 29, 2025.

Are Australian goods facing higher-than-10% tariffs?

Current guidance indicates Australia remains at the 10% baseline (no extra increases announced for Australia at this time).
