Ever thought about skipping town to marry your beau?  It mightn’t seem as crazy as you may think.  Destination weddings are becoming increasingly popular, and it’s no surprise why.  Sending out the wedding invitations, dusting off the suitcase, and heading off to an iconic holiday destination with your favourite friends and family provides a unique and memorable way to exchange those all-important ‘I dos’.

This month we thought we’d feature Byron Bay, south of Brisbane, Australia’s most easterly point. Byron Bay is one of the most popular tourist destinations in New South Wales, so it’s no surprise that it is also an iconic wedding destination for couples from all across Australia. With its reputation for world famous beaches, glorious hinterland, natural beauty, diverse residents and laidback lifestyle, Byron Bay provides a stunning backdrop for thousands of couples every year .

There are really 100+ reasons to have a Byron Bay wedding, but we’ve managed to narrow it down to the top 10.

1. Holiday

Want the destination wedding without the expensive travel and long flights? With its proximity to both Gold Coast & Ballina’s regional airport, Byron Bay makes an easy weekend getaway for you and your guests. With an extensive selection of holiday accommodation to suit all budgets and tastes, your wedding will have that contagious holiday feeling and leave your guests footloose and city free.

Byron Bay

2. Postcard Perfect

Spectacular beaches, rolling hinterland vistas, iconic lighthouse walks….what a backdrop! It’s a photographers dream being on the doorstep of such a beautiful natural landscape. You’ll have the wedding album envy of all your friends.

Byron Bay

3. It’s the Vibe

What makes Byron special is the vibe of the town. With a strong coastal surf culture, eclectic hippy history and laidback lifestyle, Byron has a way of converting even the most cynical. Locals are dedicated to preserving its small town soul, endless beaches, reliable surf breaks, fine food and diversity. A Byron wedding gives your guests the chance to embrace all of this and ample opportunities for pre & post get-togethers at many of the picturesque locations that surround the area.

Byron Bay

4. Eat, Drink, be Merry
An area rich in diverse, organic produce; your Byron wedding will be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing your menu. With the food scene matching the jaw dropping vistas you’ll be able to create a menu that uses only the freshest seasonal ingredients.

Byron Bay

5. She’s Talented

Despite being only a small regional town, Byron is fortunate to be serviced by award-winning photographers, high class theming and event companies, hair and make-up specialists, exclusive entertainment and  incredible celebrants.

Byron Bay

6. Spoil your Guests

A Byron Bay souvenir or gift is a special way to honour and show your appreciation to those who have made the odyssey with you and have helped make your wedding day special. Think locally grown hinterland coffee, hand-made natural skin care products, local art or day spa vouchers. There are so many unique and beautiful products available. As a couple, you may wish to visit the Byron Bay markets, the Arts and Industry Estate, or one of the many local galleries prior to the wedding to select gifts that will best suit your guests and your wedding theme.

Byron Bay

7. Honeymoon

With mind-blowing luxury villas, houses and guest lodges located anywhere from the magnificent  Wategos Beach up to the privacy and rolling hills of the hinterland, you will be spoilt for choice should you decide to extend your stay once the wedding festivities are over and you have waved off the last of your wedding guests.

Byron Bay

8. Shopping

Well known for its creativity, the Byron retail experience is unique. It features local handmade products, sophisticated clothing and lifestyle brands, local crafts as well as local produce and wholefoods. Byron offers what the big cities can’t.

Byron Bay

9. Make memories to Treasure

Byron Bay is an experience, a place where memories are created and schedules are forgotten.  Why not encourage your guests to enjoy hot air ballooning, sea kayaking, whale watching, surfing, hiking and mountain biking during their stay? Sound exhausting? That’s o.k ! Your guests can take it down a notch or two by taking a yoga class, enjoying one of the many day spas or retreats, learn to paint or draw or simply flop and drop on one of the many spectacular beaches that hug the coastline.

Byron Bay

10. Relax….

No traffic lights, no suits, no high rises, no hustle, no…..worries. Arrive a day, a week, a month before your wedding and leave the high heels at home.  Embrace the laid back lifestyle during the lead up to your wedding and you’ll awake feeling relaxed, stress free and tanned on your most special day.

Invited to a wedding and have no idea what to wear? Weddings are a time of joy and celebration,  but choosing the perfect wedding guest dress can feel overwhelming if you’re unsure about the dress code! so this guide courtesy of www.glamcorner.com.au, will help you navigate through the best wedding guest dresses and get you sorted for your upcoming wedding in style!

Chic and Comfortable: Formal Wedding Guest Dresses

Wedding Guest Style Guide 2019
Image: HarperBazaar

This is a slightly more casual dress code, that means you have a wider variety of wedding guest dress options, so get creative! We’ve seen the tailored pantsuit come back in style in recent years, and it’s here to stay. Even celebs are on the trend, with some wearing a pantsuit to red carpet events and making a statement. with some wearing a pantsuit to red carpet events and making a statement. This look combines sophistication with effortlessness, ensuring you feel super comfortable on the dance floor! If the pantsuit is not your style, opt for a long floaty wedding guest dress with a more relaxed silhouette. Whatever style you choose, remember to compliment your outfit with makeup and hair that suits a more formal look – think soft waves and a red lip.

Stylish Semi Formal Dresses for Day and Evening Weddings

Image: Instagram, HarperBazaar

This invite is slightly less formal, giving you the freedom to skip a full-length wedding guest dress! The only guideline is to keep the hemline of the dress around or below the knee. If the wedding is held during the day, opt for light tones, florals and breezy fabrics to suit the occasion! If it’s in the evening, choose dark, formal colours and more structured silhouettes. Have a lovely jumpsuit to wear? Go for it or stick with a chic, knee-length wedding guest dress for a polished look!

Relaxed and Stylish Beach Wedding Guest Dresses

Wedding Guest Style Guide 2019

Embrace the gorgeous setting with a lovely dress or cute playsuit! Look for relaxed cuts, a light flowing silhouette and summer colours and prints! The weather can also be unpredictable so keep in mind that it can get windy! Maxi dresses are often more appropriate and safer than short dresses, or go for a playsuit to keep it in place. For shoes, save yourself from stumbling in stilettos and be in the comfort of your favourite pair of sandals.

Romantic Garden Wedding Guest Dresses for Country and Vineyard

Wedding Guest Style Guide 2019
Image: HarperBazaar, Alysonhaley

Typically held at a farm, vineyard or garden – this invite is perhaps the most picturesque option of all and you’ll be sure to capture some great photos with the beautiful location setting. Think laidback and playful dresses! A dress that you can move around in and also play with the location of the event with soft tones, florals and lace! Boots look great with a ruffled floral midi dress and are safe to walk in on grass plains and uneven surfaces. To spice up your look, add statement earrings and a bold pop of colour to complete your outfit.

Mystery Wedding Location

No idea where you are getting yourself into? Don’t fret. Be sure to map the location of the wedding and do a search on Instagram or anywhere online! You may find photos of previous weddings that have been held at the location. Also, consider the weather and season. You don’t want to be planning a long sleeve gown for a hot summer day. Still unsure? Ask other guests what they’re planning to wear! At least when you get there, you won’t be facing it alone.

Now that you’ve selected what you’re going to wear to the wedding for the dress code. We have gathered our quick final tips on how to be a great wedding guest!

Avoid Wearing White

Don’t wear white or anything close to white like pale blue or ivory. It can be misleading and you want the bride to feel really special on her day. Why wear white when there are so many colours on the colour chart!

Don’t Dress Too Casual

Even if the wedding invitation calls for casual attire, it’s important not to go too far with your outfit. Jeans and t-shirts are never acceptable unless the couple has specifically said they’re hosting a laid-back, denim-friendly wedding. Instead, opt for something a little more polished like khakis or slacks for men, or a simple, elegant dress for women. Remember, you’re still attending a significant event, so show respect to the couple by dressing appropriately.

The Paperlust team conducted an extensive research to bring you a comprehensive guide to the most important stationery trends of the year. From unique shapes and paper to various colour trends for your event stationery, we sum it up for you below

Vellum Die-Cut cards

Vellum Die-Cut cards

Choosing the right event stationery can be overwhelming with so many styles, print types and colour stocks on our website, (we know! It’s starting to get confusing for us too!) But it’s also one of the most exciting parts of organising that special day you’ve been dreaming of so we’re here to give you a bit of insight and inspiration on the latest trends for this year.

If you’re loving the above image of our die-cut vellum paper (the half-arch transparent one) you’re on the right path to finding the most on-trend save the date. The ‘Framed’ design has been popular since it went live just 2 months ago! A  lot of people have been asking us if it comes in different colours and we’re working hard to add more print and paper types but for now this minimalist style half-arch vellum card has been one of our most wanted.

Foil on Die-cut cards

Foil on Die-cut cards

Another one of our premium print types are foil on die cut cards, adding that extra bit of foil makes the invitations so elegant and personalised, you can go all foil, this looks fantastic on black stock, or a more subtle look with just the names in foil like our Garden Estate design on the right. We think both print options look great on our die-cut cards.

Foil on Die-cut cards

Next we wanted to touch on colour trends, (my personal favourite) because it’s such an important element to consider when planning the style of the event. We’re seeing more earthy terracotta or “potters clay” colours that are still very on trend especially in the interior design world but this also works beautifully for print stationery like our ‘Shape of Love’ and ‘ Harvest’ die-cut invitations above.

Foil on Die-cut cards

Another one of my personal favourites would be the Duck egg blue or Aegean teal, this colour is so elegant if used with the right design and fonts for invitations. It also goes well with a lot of greenery such as blue gum leaves, blue hydrangeas and so many other native australians flowers. Don’t be afraid to mix and match your cards in colour and shape, this year is all about mixing solid colour cards. Pair the Aegean teals with Almond or smokey whites, or go for the layered earthy colours with hints of burnt orange.

Dark Botanica and wedding invitation fonts

Lastly the dark floral designs that really make your invitations stand out such as the Tulips, Myrtle Gentry and the Gardenia design that have such a rich and elegant look to them. This trend is very popular on social media by a lot of florists we’ve seen recently and we hope to see more of this style customised and printed. Want to be even more unique? Go for a square double sided card where you can fit all the wording you need and still have space for bold design elements and fonts.

This exciting new collaboration started with Burnt Butter and Paperlust being neighbours (literally a few doors down from each other). Being in the events industry, we just had to do a collaboration! Shab and Lisa worked on a concept to suit both Paperlust and Burnt Butter by choosing bridal shower parties as the focus.

Burnt Butter x Paperlust

To learn more about Burnt Butter we also interviewed Lisa co founder of Burnt butter to get insight into the busy life of our local cake makers

  • What is Burnt Butter’s favourite event to arrange cakes for?
We love baking for all occasions! We do however love the reactions of young children when their cake is revealed and is better than what they had imagined. It’s just magical!
  • How easy is it for customers to arrange their party with Burnt Butter?
Super easy. All of our pre-designed cakes, sweet treats, balloons and party ware are online. Clients can simply browse and purchase from the comfort of home any time they please. For those who love to see and feel products our party shop is situated in Swan St Richmond and is a paradise for party lovers!
  • What’s been your favourite part about this collaboration?
Working with another local Richmond creative! We have admired Paperlust for many years and it’s been so lovely seeing your incredible products in person.
  • Was there a particular event/party that sparked the idea for this business? (It may even be a party disaster you witnessed).
Our business as it is today evolved from our cafe (also named Burnt Butter which was in South Melbourne). Mum (Glenda) placed a cake in the window the very first week she opened and our “professional” cake business grew from there. (We have been baking together for 30+ years). Eventually we became so busy we decided to sell the cafe business and focus on cakes. Fabulous parties and party products were emerging at the time and we noticed our clients were all purchasing online from a variety of suppliers and asking us to match their cakes to their party ware. We thought, wouldn’t it be great to bring it all together for them with balloons so they could literally just make one stop!
  • What is your favourite kind of cake?
It would have to be our caramel mud with salted caramel ganache or maybe our lemon mud with layers of luscious lemon curd and white chocolate ganache. Oh it’s too hard to decide!
Burnt Butter x Paperlust

About the process

Burnt Butter x Paperlust

We wanted the bridal shower invitations and welcome sign to look feminine and fun, and set about to create the perfect design using a vibrant mix of pink flowers and cake. Who doesn’t get excited about cake when they see their invites!

We also designed the most adorable baby shower invitations together, which Burnt Butter can make a matching cake to.

About the design and print

Burnt Butter x Paperlust

Thinking about our vision for the design, Shab got together a mood board to help figure out colours, textures and fonts. Once she and Lisa had decided on the elements that were just right, Shab set about designing the perfect bridal shower and baby shower invites. The design is made so it can be customised in our real foil and digital print, which is great for those brides-to-be wanting to add a little bit of shine to their welcome sign or their bridal shower invitations.

When I fantasize of love and romance I generally associate these thoughts with food and Paris. Here at T&H we all seem to share that notion, so we’ve based these easy go-to hairstyles for a wedding on our favorite Parisian pastries. Whether you’re a bridesmaid, maid of honor or just an attendee, these delectable hairstyles will get you through the night and take only minutes to perform. Bon appetite!

The Croissant

This easy go-to hairstyle may look the most complicated but is actually the easiest trick in the coiffe cookbook! It’s great to start with curled/wavy hair, and is an even more awesome way to curl wet hair without heat.

  1. Grab a decorative hairband with elastic and place it on your head like a crown for the princess you are.
  2. Begin tucking the hair into the band, rolling as you go. This does not have to be neat! Just shove it on in there until all of the hair is in a perfectly imperfect croissant like structure.
  3. Pin where the hair roll meets the head to secure it in place. Fluff, tug, spray with hairspray and fin!

The Cinnamon Twist

Hate braiding but love the look? Then this simple twist is your go-to wedding hairstyle. The final result makes you look like a total pro, and gives you that ‘Jennifer Aniston at the airport’ look we are all secretly dying to achieve.

  1. Grab a two inch section of hair above your ear and cross it over two inches towards the back of your head.
  2. Grab another section right below where you placed the first one, let it drop and cross the second piece over to towards the back. Repeat this process horizontally halfway across your head and pin in place.
  3. Repeat on the other side of your head until the two end pieces meet in the middle. Loop one section into the other to make it look continuous.
  4. Pin in place, spray with hairspray, fluff and tug!

Hot Cross Bun

Feel like throwing your hair up in a messy bun and moving on with your life? Same. This go-to wedding hairstyle dresses up that messy bun and gets you out the door and one step closer to champagne in three simple steps.

  1. Toss your hair into a low messy bun, leaving out two three inch sections of hair on either side of your head. Pin bun in place and fluff and tug.
  2. Divide section into two pieces and twist together, tugging and fluffy along the way to add volume. Drape over bun and secure in place.
  3. Repeat on opposite side. Spray with hairspray and fluff accordingly. Voila!

With these easy go-to wedding hairstyles you are ready to stand by your bestie’s side and tear up the dance floor. Now all you need is a pair of Martini Studs to complete your look!
