INTRODUCTION
How would your friends describe you in one word?
Dedicated / motivated / vivacious - you chose
You're a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Rainbow - because I can never chose a favourite.
What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?
I would say work (always work)… or if i’m lucky, dreaming about my next adventure.
Pick one: Liam or Chris Hemsworth?
Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing (always and forever)... sorry Hugh.
PAPERLUST IS...
Five words to describe Paperlust..go!
Creative / community / family / fun / supportive
AUSTRALIAN CREATIVE COMMUNITY...
Paperlust supports and collaborates with Australian creatives...
Who's your fav Australian creative or brand right now?
Too many to choose! Angie Pai is doing amazing creative things (fashion & art) / Collective Closets (fashion that gives a crap) great prints and designs / The Social Studio - they teach refugees how to sew (cert 3) and help them get jobs within the community. Some are selected to make collections for the store (using recycled and off-cuts of fabric from other brands).
What do you think is so special about Australian design?
Australia is an amazing place to live, so i think it's easy to be inspired by our surroundings and so it shows in our work. We also have a great sense of community - collaborating is a great way of meeting and learning from other creatives.
Whose designs would you like to see on Paperlust?
Anyone who is giving it a go!
LIFE AS A CREATIVE...
How would you describe your design style?
Mixed bag of goodies.
Favourite typeface?
Still trying to find 'the one'
How did you get your first design job?
Started from the bottom by working and studying as much as i could. I gathered as much experience as possible (and still am). I think it’s important to always grow.
What's the hardest part of the design process?
Hmmm… There is one thing that i find a little challenging sometimes, and that is juggling different projects at once. You really have to switch your brain from one project to the next, so i don’t feel fully connected with one. I do work well under pressure but it isn’t always my best work.
How has your home shaped your design style?
I think moving to Melbourne from Sydney last year has changed some aspects of my design style. I’ve become more inspired, refined and less cluttered.
Where is your favourite place to work?
Describe your design space. This is me dreaming - somewhere in nature overlooking an amazing view. In real life - my office at home. I just need a bigger window with more natural light.
What has been your favourite design you've created to date?
My wedding invites :)
ADVICE FOR THE YOUNG ONES...
The Paperlust team unearths emerging Australian creatives…
What’s your advice to young guns who want to make their mark?
Don’t give up. Never stop learning and developing. Open yourself to new experiences, even if they’re scary. Also, have try and have fun along the way!
