Wedding place cards for seated guests
Wedding place cards are small printed cards that carry one guest's name and sit at that guest's seat at the table. Couples with assigned seating at the reception order them so each guest can find the seat set for them. Many shoppers also call the same product name cards or table name cards. The Linear design is a folded card printed digitally on Paperlust Matte. It measures 107 x 70 mm, and the order total for 100 cards is A$204. Guest names are printed within that price.
Guest names and table numbers
You enter the guest names in the online design editor using the Add Guest Names tool. Each card you order gets its own name entry, so an order of 100 cards has 100 name fields. The same tool lets you add a table number with each name, and every card is personalised with a different name. The rest of the wording is edited once and repeats on every card.
The printed names carry no extra charge on any of the four print methods sold for place cards: digital printing, white ink, metallic and flat foil. After ordering, you can still add or edit names in the My Order section of your account until the order is approved for print.
Formats, shapes and sizes
A flat card is a single panel that lies on the plate, napkin or table. A folded card is folded once and stands on its own like a tent. The Linear and Wild Meadow designs can be ordered in landscape or portrait orientation.
The two sizes are:
- 107 x 70 mm for flat and folded rectangle cards and the wave shape
- 75 x 75 mm for arch and circle die-cut shapes
Die-cut shapes are flat cards. Printing on the four designs in the price table is single-sided.
Prices and print methods for place cards
The table below compares 100 place cards for each example design, on the default paper of that design. Guest names are included in each price. The Wild Meadow example has the lowest total at A$146. Wild Meadow, Linear and Protea use Paperlust Matte, and Sage uses Paperlust Forest Green.
| Format and print | Design | Card size | Cards | Order total | Production after you approve the proof |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flat, digital printing | Wild Meadow design | 107 x 70 mm | 100 | A$146 | 3 to 5 working days |
| Folded, digital printing | Linear | 107 x 70 mm | 100 | A$204 | 3 to 5 working days |
| Arch shape, digital printing | Protea design | 75 x 75 mm | 100 | A$186 | 5 to 7 working days |
| Arch shape, white ink on Forest Green card | Sage design | 75 x 75 mm | 100 | A$359 | 5 to 7 working days |
- Digital printing is full colour and the quickest, lowest cost method. The Linear, Wild Meadow and Protea examples use it.
- White ink prints white onto coloured card and is used by the Sage example.
- Metallic uses a metallic gold pigment with a subtle shine.
- Flat foil is applied flat with no impression in the card, and production takes 7 to 10 working days after proof approval.
Each design comes in a single print method, and the product page name tells you which one. The paper choices differ by design and are listed on each product page. Linear can be ordered on Paperlust Matte, Linen, Metallic or Wild Cotton, while Sage is offered on Forest Green only.
How many to order
Order one card per seated guest, not one per couple or household. The quantity selector runs from 10 to 300 in steps of 10, and the minimum order is 10 place cards. Count confirmed RSVPs, then round up to the next step for spares such as a late addition or a name that needs reprinting.
Spares bought with the main run cost less than a later reorder. On the Linear folded example, 100 cards cost A$204 and 110 cards cost A$213.40, so 10 spare name cards add A$9.40. A separate later order of 10 Linear cards costs A$84.50.
Proof, printing and delivery
Within 1 to 2 business days of ordering, a designer checks the file and sends a free digital proof. The proof stage is the last point at which guest names and wording can be corrected, and corrections can be sent back over unlimited rounds of edits. No file is sent to print until you give final proof approval.
Your place cards are printed in Melbourne. StarTrack Premium delivers the order free within Australia. From dispatch, the order usually reaches a metro address on the next business day. Regional and rural destinations need longer in transit. The production times for each print method are shown in the price table above.
Matching stationery and other events
To keep the table matched, wedding menus can be ordered in the Linear, Wild Meadow and Sage designs above. A seating chart at the entrance tells guests which table to go to, and the place cards on this page then mark the seat at that table. Table numbers complete the setting so guests can identify each table. Both the Linear and Wild Meadow designs can also be ordered in the wedding invitations range. A welcome sign in the Wild Meadow design greets guests at the entrance, and it is sold in the wedding signs range.
The same card designs are ordered for other seated events such as a dinner party, engagement party, baby shower or corporate dinner. The wording on any design can be changed to suit the occasion.
The guide to place card wording covers wording examples, etiquette and display ideas, and the guide to making place cards yourself shows how to print them at home from a template.
Frequently Asked Questions
No, they are the same product. Some people write the name as one word, placecards, and others say placement cards. Name tags are another term shoppers use, but the card belongs at the table setting and is not a badge to wear. Whichever term you use, the ordering steps and the price stay the same.
An escort card is displayed at the entrance and tells a guest which table to go to. A place card is at the setting and marks the exact seat. A reception can use one or both. The cards can carry a table number with the name using the Add Guest Names tool, which gives guests the table detail at the seat as well.
An order contains the printed place cards only, and holders or stands are not sold with them. Folded cards need none because the fold itself creates the stand. A flat card needs a holder only if you want it to stand upright, otherwise it can lie on the plate, napkin or table.
Every design here is sold as finished printed place cards, delivered with each name already on its card. It is not a printable file or a template to print at home. You edit the design and wording online before ordering, then Paperlust prints and delivers the finished cards.
Expedited production costs A$50. On digital printing it brings production to 1 to 2 working days after proof approval. It is selected at checkout when the order is eligible. Delivery time is added after production.
A sample pack costs A$5 and shows the papers and print methods. A custom sample of a chosen design costs A$15, and a swatch kit costs A$20. Samples are sent by regular post and arrive in 5 to 7 business days, so you can check the finish before committing.
If a print fault appears in the delivered cards, the 100% Print Happiness Guarantee applies. The first remedy is a reprint, then credit or a refund if the reprint does not fix the issue. Once you approve the proof, the wording on it sits outside the guarantee, so check every name carefully before you approve. Claims must be made within 30 days of dispatch.
