We have used Paperlust many times, for invitations, welcome signs, save the dates, place cards, seating charts etc and we are always happy. Customer service is 10/10, if there is an issue with anything and you raise it, they work and work until you are happy with the result. They are also very reasonably priced compared to other places. Will be using them again in the future.

Wedding Menus: Real Examples, Sizes and Print Choices

The table is the last place your guests look before service starts, and the one card they will actually hold while they decide what to eat. Wedding menus do more than list courses. They tell guests whether to stay seated, line up, or pass platters, and they set the tone for the next hour.

This guide covers wedding menu examples by service style, size and shape choices, print and paper decisions, and a realistic production and delivery timeline. Every design is personalized online, then printed by Paperlust and shipped to your address in the United States.

Wedding menu examples by service style

Your wedding menu design should start with how the food is served, not with a favorite layout. The wording that works for a plated dinner does not always work for a buffet. Build the card around the service structure, then adjust the details to match your caterer. These are common wedding menu options.

Plated three course dinner

Keep the card short. A centered heading with the couple's names and date sits above three course lines: appetizer, entrée, and dessert. If the entrée has a choice, list the two or three options under the entrée heading. A bottom line can read, "Please inform your server of any allergies." This is the most traditional wedding menu card format and works well at a formal reception.

Buffet and action stations

Guests need to know what is at each station and where to find it. Group the menu by station rather than by course. A carving station line might list beef tenderloin, horseradish cream, and dinner rolls, while a salad station lists mixed greens, roasted vegetables, and dressings. If the emcee opens tables in a certain order, put that instruction at the top of the card so no one lines up before their table is called.

Family style share table

This format tells guests that platters will arrive for the table. List the shared courses in the order they will be brought out: salads, sides, mains, and dessert. The phrase "served family style for the table" is enough, with no need to list individual portions. Family style menus work well for smaller weddings where the kitchen can pace the room and guests are comfortable passing dishes.

Cocktail hour and reception bites

For a cocktail style reception, keep the menu to passed bites and stationed plates. Group items by hot and cold, or by tray passed versus stationed. A short line such as "Passed throughout the cocktail space" helps guests decide whether to stay near the bar or move toward the food. This style is best delivered as a small menu card that fits in a suit pocket or clutch.

Dietary notes and kids meal cards

Dietary information belongs on a separate small card or a short line at the bottom of the main menu. If you use symbols, include a key on the same side of the card so guests do not have to flip it over after sitting down. For a kids meal, keep the language plain: chicken tenders, buttered pasta, fruit cup. List the children's meal on the back of the menu or on a smaller card at each child's place setting, not buried in the adult courses.

Menu sizes and shapes are freer than invitation sizes

Invitations must fit an envelope and meet postage rules. Menus do not. They travel from your hand to the table, so postage constraints do not limit the format. That opens up shapes you may not want anywhere else in the suite. The available shapes include a standard size, tall menus, round menus, and special die cut menus.

The only size test is whether the menu is large enough to carry every course without overwhelming the place setting. A menu that sits on a charger plate or across the napkin should still leave room for glassware and flatware. Tall and round formats tend to read more like a design feature, while a standard card is easier to fit next to a place card.

Paper, print method and matching the invitation suite

Menus look most considered when they match the paper stock and print finish of the invitation suite. A table setting reads as one thing when the menu, place card, and invitation share the same paper color and texture. If the suite is not set, choose the menu once the wedding invitations are selected, so the menu can follow the same lead.

These are the US prices per card at 100 for the shared wedding stationery print methods:

Print methodUS price per card at 100
Digital printing$2.24
Metallic$3.05
White Ink$3.46
Flat Foil$3.84
Letterpress$4.33
Colour Stock + Foil$4.97
Foil stamp$6.41

The minimum order is 10 cards, except foil stamping, which starts at 50. Production time covers printing at the studio. It does not include shipping transit.

From proof to delivered menus

After you personalize a design online, a designer proof arrives within 1 to 2 business days. Two rounds of edits are included at no extra cost, and nothing prints until you approve the proof. Once production is complete, the printed wedding menus ship to all 50 US states via DHL Express with 2 to 4 business days in transit. Shipping is free on orders over $350.

For digital, metallic, and white ink prints, production takes 3 to 5 business days. Flat foil takes 7 to 10 business days. Letterpress and foil stamping take 20 to 23 business days, so those methods need an earlier decision. Count back from the wedding date using the production window plus the shipping window, and add a buffer for the proof rounds.

Wedding menu templates: personalize online, then we print

People searching for a wedding menu template often want a design they can personalize without starting from a blank page. Each wedding menu template is a designer layout you open in our online editor. You change the course names and wording, review the proof, and then Paperlust prints the finished cards and ships them to you.

You can still make the design your own. Edit the type, adjust the course list, and move elements within the layout. A design can be saved to your account and shared with others before purchase, which helps when a partner, parent, or planner needs to weigh in. If you are still working through the earlier pieces, start with the save the date cards so the design language carries through the entire suite.

Menus beyond the wedding day

The same menu designs suit engagement parties, milestone birthdays, and corporate events with the wording changed. Because the format is not tied to wedding language, a plated dinner menu can become a birthday dinner menu by swapping the couple's names for a guest of honor and the date. Corporate dinner menus often work best with a standard rectangular card and a clean digital print finish.
